First post! (obviously I haven’t listened yet)
I was lucky enough to go to CICF on Sunday, and it was hard to put everything into context, even though I’d seen some of the Daimchoc stuff already.
I have to say though, Gravity Builder is awesome!
I could totally see him f*cking up New York like in All Hail Megatron.
Well, it looks like 8 toys your leaks predicted cam true. Rewind, Stripes, Horri-Bull (called Terribull), Nightbeat, Skullcruncher (called Skullsmasher), Hardhead, Galvatron and Sentinel Prime! We also saw hints of an soon-to-be-announced Leader Optimus Prime from a Walmart computer listing and the head silhouette from a Hasbro slideshow looked like Powermaster Optimus Prime’s head. Many of the small features you predicted also seem to be coming true.
I did okay, but not as well as you guys. Remember in July I made some Titan Wars predictions? One was that the cassette minions like Buzzsaw would turn into vehicles that the Headmasters heads could ride in the cities. That was displayed at NYCC. Also, the fact that the base modes was combined was mentioned, as I predicted. Blaster’s base combines with Fort Max was implied by the Hasbro rep in a video. Waiting to see if other predictions I made come true.
Oddly most web sites still won’t report the rest of your rumors… You’d think this would be held as a sign the source is reliable.
Oh, I guess there was a Siren there too, although he is called Loudmouth now. So that makes 9 characters predicted come true.
You mention in this episode that G2 Combiner Wars Bruticus was confirmed. Where did you hear that?
I thought we had also mentioned Squeezeplay at some point in the last few months? I haven’t seen any confirmation of G2 Bruticus either, so that might have just been a misstatement. But I’m sure he’ll show up eventually.
Minor corrections for the episode, the TFC Toys version of Liokaiser combined for is called Hades. It goes along with their theme of naming combiners after gods of myth. Liokaiser was lead by Leozack in Victory, who was the second in command of the Destrons, so basically he was the Starscream of that series, under the command of Deathsaurus, the Destron leader.
Toyworld also showed off a G2 metallic gold version of Bii.
iGear also did a Glyph toy once, called Bee03. http://en.wikialpha.org/wiki/Bee_03
Did you guys see the quick demo of the treads for the Toyworld Constructicons? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvtBtcevmJs
What the heck are you guys talking about BotCon toys being rare old molds? They were always repaints of recent ones. The last time they did a Beast Wars set, it was made from Transformers Cybertron repaints.
As for the Ravage toy, it’s a repaint of the toy released as Breakdown(S) and Sunstreaker(S). It’s the third character from the mold.
Big Convoy is expensive? You can pick one up new, out of box, from the Korean run for about $28 shipped! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Takara-Transformers-Beast-Wars-Neo-Big-Convoy-C-35-Optimus-Prime-Mammoth-figure-/120857574119?hash=item1c23ac3ae7
Hey fellas! One week till TFCON!!! I’d like to weigh in on the Quakewave vs MP debate. I own a first run Quakewave and yes, he is one of my best and most favorite figures. I’m with Darryl on Quakewave being superior due to the die cast parts in the legs. It just seems more heavy duty. However, I think the MP one looks to win when it comes to alt mode for sure. It seems more G1 accurate so I will be picking it up and will probably display in alt mode while Quakewave will be in robot mode.
I had some stuff to say about the Stormbringer Thunderwing, but I’ll just let Charles take care of that. He’s a much better authority on that. Essentially he had two robot modes, though – a regular robot mode and a “powered up” mode where he was in a suit (formed from his own body?), which gave him an Omega Supreme-like helmet over his head.
On to MP Hot Rod. I love the damn thing. The chest doesn’t bother me at all, nor does the backpack. I didn’t like MP-09 when I had it, and I had one that didn’t have any breaking problems. Bot mode looked good from the front… but that was it. Any other angles, it was pretty weird. Clever idea, poorly executed. Just my opinion. Now, I don’t believe I’ve read that MP-28 was confirmed to be a Hasui design, but I may have missed that. If it is, then I have all the faith in the world that this will be fantastic. Both Prowl and Wheeljack raised some eyebrows in initial photography because they looked kinda weird, but once they came out, everything was fine, and they transformed like they were engineered with magic in the design. Hasui is a god among toy designers. Oh, wow, did you catch that hyperbole flying by?
That said, I think the one flaw the figure has is the Matrix. Hot Rod never carried the Matrix, Rodimus Prime did. There’s no reason Hot Rod should have that chamber. Not until he gets reformatted into Rodimus Prime, at least. That’s just what I think.
I agree, Tom, about Hot Rod not needing a Matrix chamber. The space could have been better used to streamline his chest. Where we differ is that I really like MP-09. My only gripe with it is that design compromises were made in order to accommodate the quadruple-changer gimmick. A stand-alone Hot Rod figure, I imagined, would have corrected that. But with an unnecessary Matrix hole in Hot Rod (innuendo has reached level 5) preventing a toon-accurate chest, I think the opportunity has been squandered. Still buying it, though.
And Jimmerz, thanks for the Quakewave / Shockwave comparison. I have a dark Quakewave pre-ordered and the official Shockwave announcement didn’t compel me to cancel it. Quakewave has all the benefits you mentioned. Plus he looks to be at least an inch taller. Being about the same height as Apollyon, Quakewave is more believable as a usurper.
Good episode guys. No Big C, though (sniff).
And when I said Gravity Builder, I meant the ToyWorld Devastator. Standing next to him though was truly impressive. I barely remember Gravity Builder, but looking at my 1 blurry pic, I’ve got to say the individual Constructicons do look great.
Yesterday, I finally got my IDW Phase 2 Collection Book 2 from the UK (took more than a month to get through customs). It’s a sexy volume. I also bought the re-released MP-12 Lambor (red Sideswipe) from Hasbro’s online Chinese store for cheap. He looks great next to his G2 bro. I’ve also ordered Wind Saber/Maiden/Miko/mini-Windblade/whatever she’s called now.
Daimchoc seemed to have got most of his stuff from Sina Weibo / weibo.com – which you can use in English (but most posts will need translating)
Good points Cashie. I’m, for the most part, (go fuck yourself facebook), a social media whore. I need to try and get into weibo
I get most of the pictures for my show from Weibo too. Diamchoc and I bath discovered that most Chinese companies use it as their social media resource, and they post their cell phone pictures and announcement there.
