TransMissions Extra! Episode 4 – Inside Baseball

On this episode of TransMissions Extra!, Yoshi pulls back the curtain on the inner workings of the TransMissions Team. In Decepticon Justice Division fashion, we talk about how we achieve (or don’t) productivity and project management at home, work, and on the podcast. We also talk about some of our long-term goals for future TransMissions content, and we ask you the listener for thoughts on what you’d like to see from us!

What is TransMissions Extra!?
We usually spend the first 30 minutes of our TransMissions Skype call talking about other random topics before we record the main show. TransMissions Extra! is a more organized discussion of these topics recorded into a short podcast of its own. We hope you enjoy TransMissions Extra!

  1. Hey fellas. In addition to the shirts, I’ll throw out a couple of ideas. You guys are well known enough with the IDW crew, why not try to set up a live interview panel at one of these cons coming up? How cool would it be to see “Big C Interviews Alex Milne Live!” on a Botcon program? Like a live talk show format but at cons where folks can attend. Also, having a booth set up could help too with shirts, merch etc. I’m not sure how difficult these things would be to implement but it’s worth a try.

  2. I had a discussion with a coworker today that made me realize where (aside from Transformers) my strongest area of interest lies. It’s a general knowledge of 80’s & 90’s geek properties…especially animated ones.

HT: “There was this movie with robot spiders that–”
Me: ” ‘Runaway’. Starring Tom Selick. Go on.”
    HT: “Wow.”
    ………………………….

HT: “There was this Indian dude in space–”
Me: ” ‘Bravestar’ He had a robotic talking horse with a blunderbuss.”
    HT: “How the hell…?”
Me: “I would’ve said Blackstar, but that show wasn’t as popular. Both shows starred Native American guys and were made by Filmation, though. Bravestar fit more in the Space Western category. Right next to Saber Rider and Galaxy Rangers.”
HT: “Man…you are a different kind of geek than I am. That’s some next-level shit.”

That said, unless your request for topic suggestions actually meant general topics, I have a few properties I’d like to hear discussed Transmissions Extra style.

Robotech – Namely the Macross Saga or New Generation,

Mighty Orbots – Would love to hear about the toy that never was and why it was scrapped.

Galaxy Rangers – A gem that never seemed to get enough recognition for its quality animation and writing. I want to be Shane Gooseman when I grow up.

Spiral Zone – I remember this being a very dark show aimed at older kids. Unusual for the time.

Exo Squad – Everybody gets a loader suit from the end of Aliens!

Dangaioh – Look up this OAV. The mecha is gorgeous.

Megazone 23 – (pronounced “two, three”) This OAV undoubtedly inspired “The Matrix”. The plot similarities are striking. Good as this flick is, its sequel is even more 80s-style glorious. Unfortunately the 3rd and final flick is shit.

Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors – It doesn’t hold up, but it was canceled before he ever found his father. I need closure!

I’ll stop there, but make no mistake…I have lots more. >:-)

    Later, guys.

  3. I would definitely buy a shirt if you guys put ‘m out. Hell, I’d even pay for shipping it to the Netherlands! 😉 But seriously, I think there is definitely more potential here. I’ve said it before, you guys are funny and have great chemistry together. I just think that you would have to branch out a little, because even though the Transformers fandom is pretty big, it is probably not big enough. These extra shows are a great way to try out different topics. I think you should focus on related stuff like other comics, toys, movies, TV shows, video games etc. Maybe you can bring on guests when you handle certain topics. I’d love to see Transmissions turn into something bigger, so good luck with that.

  4. I am loving this Extra Podcast show guys keep it up. As for shirts I would love one, so if you do one I will be one of the first to get one.
Though If I can suggest for the patreon why not offer the shirt at a donate level? Like if you donate a certain amount a month you get the shirt and stickers and all.
Also another idea would be when you go to Cons and some Transceivers are there why not do a little podcast there just hanging out?

  5. Thanks Yoshi!!! Another idea I thought of was with the hangout. Why not have 1 or 2 patreons join you guys on this show? That way you won’t have so many on the hangout. I not saying this is a fix but it might steam the flow !!

    • I think the issue with this idea is how to be fair with all the patrons. We talk about this often. It’s a huge deal to us because it’s a huge deal to you.

  6. I am sure it is. I figured if you guys add one maybe 2 patreons to this you can talk other things than TFs. (shocking I know) Granted I not saying making it a every Extra episode thing but it might help you out a bit. Again this is just a idea for you guys. Sadly that is about I do nowadays is come up with ideas for things. When you home pretty much all the time and can’t really physically do much mostly all you do is think on things( and play games and read books and surf the web *and of course listen to one of the best podcasts around*

Hey gang I just listened to this ep (and I don’t know how baseball is involved, again I’m genetically difencent in that area) ..
But I hope there are/ has been ideas on this but maybe have some fans have a chance to go onto the show,u know there are many whom would want too do it ,i know that hang out was horrible for me on the time and all but you had to drop people to have others to come on,like yosh said it’s a good problem to have but I’m not sure on the answer to give,im glad to help out the way I can but I’m sure money’s tight for us all around,I would be saddened I would have to pledge more than I do now (and don’t get me wrong I would if I could )to be on The hangout, but now I’d not a great time for many of us to do so. I will be glad to offer my time to help if it need be.
Your show is pretty top notch ,I don’t think it needs much more polish
