Even though this message may or may not have much to do with our favorite toy franchise allow me to interject my thoughts concerning the choice of Travis Knight as director for Universal’s upcoming Bumblebee movie. I’m not sure how much credibility I’d lend to mainstream experience when it comes to the interpretation of a new and potentially lucrative movie franchise. Let us look at but a few notable directors who cut their teeth on smaller projects before reaching astronomical heights of success.
Cameron-who’s only other (slightly Hollywood related) directors credit before Terminator was Pirahna II:The Spawning. Scott-who directed the incomparable Alien, could only boast of one previous directing credit on The Duellists. Even though I could go on, for brevity’s sake I’ll mention one last person. Speilberg-whose Sugarland Express marked his debut as director on a theatrically released film before unleashing Jaws upon the world and single-handedly ushering in the dawn of the Hollwood blockbuster.
I think you guys get the point. Give our boy a chance. The honest truth is there’s a whole lotta untapped talent out there who are not bound by rules of accessibility and are hungry to leave to share their mark in the entertainment industry.
P.S. I lied *cough* Jordan Peele- Get Out *cough*
Edit:…hungry to leave their mark in the entertainment industry.
One of the key things that gets me about Bumblee’s ghost is that is was Bumblebee’s Ghost. I would have thought that Starscream was seeing Bee as his conscience or as his regrets. I don’t mind seeing it represented as Bee but would like to have seen maybe another ghost , preferably Metalhawk. We could have seen both Bee being his conscience and Metalhawk being his regret. (mostly Starcream’s regret for killing him). But I think it would have been an interesting twist to Starscream being in power. Not that the reveal at the end of the annual isn’t one I wasn’t expecting at some point. I kind of figured they would bring Bee back somehow. Whether it being in the form they are doing now or with Rodimus and the others being in basiclly a parallel world where Bee and others exist, where the bring Bee and maybe others back to this universe. Shockwave , Pipes , and others maybe? Or even alternate versions of Rodimus and the others. Who knows??
If it one thing we have learned about using parallel worlds is that anything could happen.
