TransMissions Episode 158 – Dawn of the Bove

tripredcouncil_finalart_lampOn this episode, we’re joined by comic writer and colourist John-Paul Bove (@wordmongerer) to help him promote his new Beast Wars prequel Transformers book, Dawn of the Predacus. And while we help him with promoting his book, Dawn of the Predacus, we’ll try and fit in some other news, like Masterpiece Delta Magnus, or how the original 1986 Transformers: The Movie production storyboards are up on eBay, and we’ll even talk about Judd Nelson coming to BotCon! All this and much, much more on this episode of TransMissions!

  1. Duel Mirrored Gridwork

almost a 3 hours podcast, Bove AND im the first here this morning?!
this HAS to be an awesome Friday!!
i just might play the lotto and get that top tier patron level!

    • Just $1000 a month guarantees my attendance at several cons in the US this year AND devilled eggs hand delivered to your door!

  2. From what I hear it takes like 2 years to develop a third party figure, so when FansProject started Browning II, there were no TItan Wars on the horizon. We know they have a Hardhead, Apeface and Snapdragon in development too.

Here is the transformation of Browning II – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfHLigckN1A

Browning II is a word scramble on Highbrow. If you scramble HIGHBROW it can become BROWnInG by changing the h’s to n’s. The sticks on the top of the h’s are leftover and become II.

Notice on the Browning II promo art the “n”s and “II” are in a different color than the other letters of the word. A little clue. http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/attachments/transformers-3rd-party-discussion/27536566d1440421723-fansproject-x-10-browning-ii-highbrow-11947555_118989768451459_8840630035787461069_n.jpg

  3. The “KO Sixshot” you guys spotlighted is undersized (2 inches smaller than the G1 toy, a large Voyager size). It’s actually manufactured by Cattoys, and they sell it in a box set called “Greatshot”. It’s available through many sources, I have one. It annoys me that Sirttoys always strips the Chinese toys out of the package and then doesn’t tell you the brand and make of the KOs they are selling. It actually has interesting packaging.

You can also buy it loose on ebay direct from China. http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRANSFORMERS-G1-TERMINUS-HEXATRON-SIXSHOT-EXCLUSIVE-TOY-GIFT-WITHOUT-BOX-/201478849915?hash=item2ee913457b:g:w2gAAOSwAKxWYbKv

  4. There is a trailer for Evasion Mode Optimus coming from Second Chance here: https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=SEH10000&mode=retail

Also there is a cheapo KO Evasion Mode Opimtus that comes with a trailer which is cheaper than the traler above along – http://www.ebay.com/itm/no-retail-box-with-Trailer-metal-part-Optimus-Prime-Figure-/131699831597?hash=item1ea9ebf32d:g:K2oAAOSwa-dWldCP

  5. Darryl, you have a really good perspective on the idea of FP and their headmasters, and it’s hard to disagree with you (and Jeremy) about them needing to hurry up and get these out. There’s another side to the argument, though, and this comes from a niche market, so they’ll need to balance things. I have Code, Quadruple-U, Smart Robin, Sigma-L, and Croc, and I love all of them. At the same time, I can’t wait for the Titans Return versions as well – I actually want both versions of these guys, for different reasons. The FP ones are ingenious transformations, and that’s truly their strongest points, but I think the TR figures may be more pleasing to the eye – at least as referencing a stylized G1 idea. So I’m very much looking forward to their Browning II (also, thank you Matthew Ignash for the explanation on the name! That’s about as vague as Sigma-L’s), but I’m all in for Hasbro’s offerings too.

  6. Ratchet vs. Ironhide: I also had a Ratchet as a kid, but no ironhide. The white was SO sharp with the red stripes and blue windows. I really want both, but it’s hard to say whether I’d rather have the one I never had, or the one I have toy nostalgia for. Also, Daryl, I disagree, that was a fun toy. Not cartoon accurate, but fun to play with. SMILEY FACE!

  7. Since I started listening back at episode 30-somethingish, when I gave Darryl shit for not remembering the G1 Dinobot molds have been lost or destroyed – at least that’s the story. Yoshi’s “geewunner” attitude has annoyed me more than once (I wrote in once giving him a very hard time about it, in fact), but holy crap guys, I love how positive Yoshi has come, and if not positive, just accepting of other stories.

You don’t talk shit anymore, unless it’s really warranted (well, just to fuck around or be mean, anyway). You make it known that you have your thing, and you understand the other people have their’s, much more than than you used to. You’ve grown FAR more than the other guys on the over 120 episodes I’ve been listening. I really like your new perspective. You’re not a new fan, so you just look at the new stuff as a completely objective observer and critic. I like that perspective!

  8. I took a break earlier, but came back, and the discussion about Megatron’s strength-supressing energon struck a bit of a chord with me when Jeremy compared it to anti-depressants. That’s a VERY good comparison – as I take them too. By the way, I’d rather this comment NOT be read on the show, at least verbatim. You can refer to it if you want to. If I miss my meds for too long, wild emotional swings can happen, and it’s scary. I’m sure there’s a number of us nerds who can relate. I was wondering the same thing as Darryl when the topic came up about Megatron getting aggressive, and then “Is his medicine the only thing keeping him subdued?” But no, perhaps it’s deeper. This IS James Roberts we’re talking about!

    • Hello again Tom,

Thanks for sharing and being so personal and open about something so privet. This was an angle, even after Darryl talked about it, that didn’t really sink in for me until I read your comment. I Look at the story a bit differently now. Thank you.

  9. Great podcast as always. In regards to your comic review for MtMtE #50 I wanted make a couple points:

In regards to Megatron losing his fusion cannon as a meams of helping keep him calm – in a previous issue he comments that the Autobots made him melt dowm the cannon as proof of his desire to change and he wasnt super happy about it.

The other thing I wanted to comment on is your comment about the DJD offering an Ultimatum about turning over Megatron similiar to what they dod for the Scavengers; Tarn made the comment about being surprised that all the Autobots were still alive after they murdered the quantum duplicate Lost light crew and I believe he specifocally mentioned they were going to re-murder them

Again, great show – really love ĺistening on my way to and from work. Always cheers me up almost as much as my Tim Hortons. Keep up the good work!!
