On this episode, in Toys we react to all the leaks of pictures of upcoming Hasbro Combiner Wars and Titans Returns figures, and compare them to the rumors we’ve already reported from our inside source. In Comics, we review Transformers More Than Meets The Eye #48 — it has a great main story, but we ponder why there was such an anti-climactic resolution to the cliffhanger from last issue buried in the middle? Also, how much would you pay for Peter Cullen’s and Frank Welker’s signatures on a Transformers comic? All this and much, much more on this episode of TransMissions!

i think it’s a bit unfair to call the FansToys Grinder an oversized knockoff. It obviously will have a transformation based on G1 Grimlock, just as MP Grimlock has, but every single part on it is an original molding. They don’t have much ley way to vary from the general look of Grimlock because they are trying to be “show accurate”. That’s one of the reasons I like CHUG collecting, because toy makers are free to come up with new designs for old characters, where in MP the ONLY criteria for making a toy correctly is copying the G1 animation model perfectly. No originality is allowed. Anything you do that’s is original in an MP toy makes it wrong.
I do like the oversized Feral Rex design. I don’t plan to buy the whole thing, but I did find a guy in China selling them individually, and I ordered oversized Felisaber to try out. It only cost about $9 plus shipping (although shipping was more than $9!)
I’m glad a lot of your predictions/leaks on Titans Return are coming out to be true. I do have some confusion about Liokaiser, because you said the torso would look like Deathsaurus from Sky Lynx, but it honestly looks like they colored it like a mix of Leozack and Jauguar, because he looks green and black to me. Maybe the “dinobird” more will look more like Deathsaurus’ dragon mode, but from this single picture we have I don’t see it.
You guys mentioned he has an Arms Micron Gul as Eaglebreast. I wonder if some third party company will make the other partners, or if we may even be able to use some other Arms Microns as the others. We would need things like a Jaguar, Lion, Bat, Hawk, Rhino, Bull. I think there are Arms Microns of most of those.
Now that we are getting closer to seeing what Combiner Wars Computron really looks like, I am eager to see what sort of add-ons third party companies will make for it, since you KNOW they will fix a lot of Hasbro mistakes.
Great show, fellas! Yoshi, thanks for the Giant Robot Comics exclusives! Do we owe you anything for these? BTW, I too was very upset at the Cyclonus fake out. I’m tired of this sort of thing happening in my most beloved book. It cheapens the end of 47 which was very emotional. The only thing that would satisfy me at this point is if Tarn tore Cyclonus in half…lengthwise…Ambulon style. Now, I love Cyclonus but his survival now means his death should be doubly harsh. Maybe Kaon could electrocute him.
Yeah, the comic fake out was lame! What the fuck, Roberts? Maybe time will heal this pain.
I hope you and Emmerz are going to be at TFCon Chicago. We both know I’m not a good man to have on the Transformers Trivia challenge.
Enjoyed the show this week (like every week!). Didn’t get a chance to listen early through the Patreon, but I made sure to listen today. I like KO Korner, especially after I’ve heard so much about MPP-10, the upscaled version of MP-10. People are legitimately saying it’s better than MP-10, which is kinda crazy.
Sorry you guys aren’t getting your due for the rumors, but I wonder if it’s because most people just don’t want to have to reference the fact you cover it in a section named after a sexual act. I mean, I understand “deep throat” as a reference and it’s historical significance, but throwing on that last “ing” might be too much for others to discuss, especially on more G rated shows like RFC.
Jeremy did a great job with the comic recap. Now, about Cyclonus. I don’t mind it so much because A, I was relieved to see he wasn’t gone and B., nothing that happened in that issue can take away what the previous issue made me feel.
That said, I have a theory. I kind of wonder if everything that happened in this issue that didn’t involve the Rung/Skids story line is just being dreamed up by Tailgate in his coma. Think about it. First off, Cyclonus is fine, despite have been shredded the previous issue. Megatron and Cyclonus make up immediately. We know that Getaway and Atomizer have been arrested, but no details are really given as a comtose Tailgate wouldn’t know what exactly went down, just that in his mind Magnus would make it all right (Roberts did state that it would be further addressed next issue so there’s that.) Tailgate single handedly woke up Thunderclash and there’s fireworks to celebrate, which isn’t something I can see Rodimus allowing given his feels towards ‘Clash. And the cover for next issue shows Tailgate protecting a cowering Thunderclash. Now, obviously you can’t really go by a cover, but I found it interesting. That’s been eating at me since I read the issue so I had to get that out there. I’m hoping Charles will see this because I’d love his take on this And the impending smack down when he demonstrates why it can’t be true 🙂
Til next time!
Thanks, and that’s a good theory and very possibly the route they take. Tailgate does think very highly of himself.
Exactly. Also, it’s pretty crazy to focus on just the Cyclonus part of the issue when what’s happening with Sunder is just plain creepy and crazy.
Hey Jason, thanks for sharing your theory. Looking at the comic, it’s interesting because the characters on the pages with Cyclonus and Tailgate have no interaction with any of the other characters (mainly Rung, Skids, and Froid) in the rest of the story. So your theory at least has nothing on the page to contradict it.
Still, it would be a little weird to have a dream sequence interjected in the middle of the story with no narrative clues or indications that it was a dream sequence. Also, it seems weird to me to have a dream sequence where the dreamer is not an active participant at all.
I’m skeptical, and I’m gonna say I don’t buy your theory, but I can’t discount or disprove it. So we’ll have to wait and see for next issue! 🙂
Thanks for responding Charles! Yeah, it would be very unRoberts like to not leave any clues. But I’ll take the fact that nothing contradict me in the book as a small victory!
Great episode as always, guys, even if it came out a little short. Hey, that just meant I got to listen to most of it in a day. I just got some new music, so that frees up my phone for my commute next week.
I kinda wish I had seen this UW Bruticus news sooner! I already have the CW Onslaught, which is such an extensive retool of Hot Spot, he’s ALMOST a new figure. Almost. Not quite. I actually felt like I could accept Blast Off as a jet because that’s more of a combat vehicle than a space shuttle. I’m more excited about Vortex and his four rotors. I’d like to see what other changes they make to that mold. It was OK at first as Alpha Bravo, but holy crap, I think they abused the hell out of it, and now it’s my least liked limb, simply for the way the rotors work in every mode but the alt mode. They want to use it TWICE for Victorion? The artwork shows two 4-rotored helicopters, but the hand-painted sample? Two Alpha Bravos with their remolded parts. I don’t mean to sound like I’m raging, but geez, Takara puts two more blades on, and already I’m liking it better. Of course, we’ll have to see finished product images before I can really make a good judgement call.
I don’t blame Darryl for being sick of Combiner Wars. Not one bit. I’m sorry to hear that, man. I’m still liking it as long as they’re giving me combiners I like, though. I never had a Bruticus, Defensor, or Superion as a kid, so these excite me. I got the white Optimus and his limbs so I could have desk toys while the combiners I cared about could be on display, and I’m only now starting to feel some fatigue. Whether it be CW or UW, I think I’ll be done after Bruticus, unless Liokaiser does something AMAZING. Oh, and obviously I’ll have to get Sky Lynx and just call him a triple changer and not a torso. I love Computron, but I have Maketoys Quantron, and I’m OK with him being a different style.
I’m so far behind on the comics I have. Like I’ve mentioned before, which you may or may not remember since you guys have a LOT of fans after all, I don’t have any kind of local comic shop, so I just get the trades when I can, but thanks to things beyond my control, I haven’t gotten any past Volume 6 of MTMTE and RiD – I haven’t even gotten to the title change. Just the first volumes after Dark Cybertron. I don’t know why I’m OK with being spoiled with your reviews, when I hate spoilers otherwise, but it just makes me want to read them even more. I’m really starting to like Yoshi’s outside view on these books. As someone not invested in the story, he offers a unique objectiveness I’m growing to appreciate more and more. I love how this issue ALMOST got him, except for the Cyclonus thing. I agree with your discussion at the end. I think the time constraints and being short two pages were a major part of that. Roberts is a brilliant writer, but I think he writes for a long game, I don’t think keeping a story, or story details, confined to a single issue is his forté. I’m certain he was dropping hints, but the way it came off, in this single issue, sounded dismissive. “Writing for the trade,” as you guys say.
I was at RI Comic Con and saw Frank, and he appeared to be having fun so i bet he’ll probably show up again.
I sure do hope so!
To help clarify about who Magmatron is, from my comment from the last episode, Magmatron is a triple changer combiner from the beast wars neo anime series. His alt modes were a Giganotosaurus, an Elasmosaurus , and a Quetzalcoatlus (basically, large meat eating dinosaur, swimming sauropod and huge pterodactyl)That can form a robot mode and a Dinosaur Chimera Mode. and if I might add to my comment about third party beast wars figures,
maybe make third party beast wars figures using cybernetic animal versions instead. For example, Perfect Effect’s Leonidas figure.
Another great episode guys !!! I just want to ask a couple of questions about some things.
1) The prices on the comics you mentioned are crazy high. Granted they are Graded and Signed. Do you feel that those prices are about what they should go for?
2) Speaking on comic buying prices. What would you say is the most expensive comic you have purchased? (and I mean as a individual comic, not in a lot or anything) If signed or not. I will admit the most expensive one I have purchased was the G2 Halloween Special. Paid $25 with shipping!
I normally as of late have been buying lots from Ebay . I have been getting great deals on them. If you guys have seen on my Twitter awhile back I purchased 3 lots from a seller for 0.99 each. And they were each 12-20 RI covers from Best of UK and some sadly Bayverse series. With shipping I paid around $23. Which I felt I got a great deal. I was even surprised to find one of them had been signed by Simon Furman. Which had to be the Diamond in the Rough!!!
3) I hate to be “THAT GUY” but WHEN WILL THERE BE A GOOGLE HANGOUT WITH YOU GUYS?? I mostly ask because there is a couple I have been holding back to show off for several months now. They are something I know you guys would like. I not asking because I want to show them off………Oh Fuck it that is what I am asking!!!
