Thanks for the mention on your show again. So there will be an SDCC set including Sentinel Prime vs. Brainstorm and Windblade. I wonder if maybe the SDCC set will include the War for Cybertron colored Sentinel Prime you first mentioned? It makes sense that a SDCC set would have color variations.
That’s actually very smart that a heavy remold of Blurr could be Brainstorm. Makes me wonder what the other Deluxes could be remolded into… Skullcruncher into Weirdwolf perhaps? Or Hardhead into Quake? Maybe Chromedome into Rev?
As for Black Shadow vs. Sky Shadow. The character was called Black Shadow in Victory TV show and toy line, but a toy was released under the name Sky Shadow in the Generations line by Hasbro. Possibly this was because Hasbro already had a trademark on the name Sky Shadow from using the name in Beast Wars and Energon. IDW just used the Japanese Black Shadow name for the toy in the comic. This has lead to fan speculation that Hasbro is afraid to use the word “black” in names. Notice that Hasbro’s homage to Black Zarak was called Dark Scorponok. I should point out Blackjack is still Blackjack, so that debunks that speculation, eh?
On the subject of “parts forming”. I don’t mind moving parts from one spot to another when I transform a toy, but a I ABSOLUTELY HATE when I have to set a part aside for one mode because there is no place to put them on the toy. So if a combiner can work out to make hands and feet into guns for the robot and vehicle modes, that would be great. Particularly on Liokiaser, because it was famous for having almost no combiner kibble. I think the only additional part needed to form the combiner on Liokaiser was the combiner helmet, everything else was built into the individual robots. It would seem like a step backwards to make a Liokaiser homage that had pieces you had to set aside when you transformed him.
I have to say I am really looking forward to the Titan Fort Max and Powermaster Optimus Prime. In the G1 comics they were my 2 of my 4 favorite characters from the series. The other 2 being Megatron and Rachet. I still have my G1 Powermaster Prime and always wanted the Fort Max, which I sadly never got. I did have a Rachet and Megatron though they were sold years ago to help with bills. Though I do hope to change that this upcoming year by not only getting the Titan Fort Max and hopefully the G1 reissue as well, plus the Powermaster Prime.
Keep up the great work guys !!!! And though I am posting this afterwards I hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving!!!
Well done again gents.
I thought I’d offer my a “correction” (also known as pulling the other Shelton) but checked first… “carnifex” literally means “butcher”, but can be used to mean executioner (at least one Roman dude picked up the nickname of Carnifex for executing a bunch of people).
Interesting talk on the Blitzwings – incidentally, I picked up the wacky coloured Blitzwing/Flywheels and Spacebus from the 11.11 sale the other week (quarter price is OK, right?). They’re decent toys – Blitzwing has flaws in every single mode – a goddamn tank turret on the jet undercarriage; no discernible front/back on the tank mode (also screws and jet bits); and the robot has weird arms. And Astrotrain… oh dear – although I like the colour combo itself, the design completely removes *any* convincing part of the alt modes. It’s just two different messes of colour clashes. The shuttle looks more like a train than the train mode. Really wish I’d picked up the commemorative edition a while ago when I saw it, Pat Lee (allegedly) box art and all. W.T.F.
Also in regard to the IDW Phase 2 collection #3… I think there must be a typo in the listing, as volume 2 has still-RID-at-this-stage #9 (the one where Superion shows up for the first time).
How are IDW going to weave Brainstorm, Windblade, and Sentinel Prime together into another one-shot? Must be J-Ro’s turn to write that…
