As TransMissions has been getting more popular, we’ve had a number of people asking how they can help support the show. We have had prizes donated for some of the contests we’ve had, but we wanted to offer people an easier way to help support us and I wanted to talk about what we’re doing. While our podcast is free to listen to, we do have costs that we’ve been paying for out of pocket (like web hosting). We’d like to help offset some of those costs and also improve the equipment we use to record the show.
Patreon is a site that has become very popular with podcasters over the past couple years. It’s much like Kickstarter, but is used for supporting ongoing projects like podcasts, comics, etc. We are starting out small but if it becomes popular we’re hoping to add additional levels and goals. We’ve had a few people sign up already and we’re blown away by the amounts some people are pledging.
In addition to Patreon we’ve set up a PayPal donation button. Some people wanted to do a one-time donation and Patreon doesn’t give us that option. To see both the Patreon and Paypal links, please check out our support page.
We’ve also had discussions on the show and offline about making shirts for the podcast. We’re working on that and will hopefully have something in time for the summer conventions.
One thing we want to stress is to not feel bad if you can’t give to us monetarily. Sending us feedback, reviewing the show on iTunes and Stitcher, and spreading the word about us are all awesome ways that you can help us out without spending anything. We love all of our listeners and appreciate all the support we receive. You guys rock.
