On this special mini-episode of TransMissions, we sit down with IDW artist Casey Coller and Writer/Colorist John-Paul Bove to hear their thoughts on the potential to revisit the G1 cartoon universe in a new comic. Yoshi details how their conversation on Twitter inspired him to start this campaign, and Casey and John-Paul express their support and interest to contribute to this project. Hey guys, TFCC have done several stories set in the original cartoon universe already, but little of it was set DURING the series. They did one story that took place during the 1986 movie, and the rest were either long before (back on Cybertron) or long (G2 and later) after the events of the TV series. For instance the TFCC did a whole series of stories of the Combaticons existing back on Cybertron in the early days of the war as Autobot soldiers, before turning bad. So it wouldn’t be difficult to have both the IDW and TFCC TV series setting comics co-exist. Do you think the IDW authors would bother reading the TFCC stories so they don’t conflict?
Yeah, the TFCC comics are officially licensed by Hasbro so I think it would be possible. I hope enough people are interested in the idea in general to at least get IDW to sit up and take notice.
